Concerts

Scottish Exhibition CentreThe Glasgow concert scene is always alive with activity. Tickets can range from cheap to expensive dependning on the event you are attending, but one thing is guaranteed and that is your satisfaction. Each venue in Glasgow has been refitted over the years resulting in some very hi tech arenas. There’s a big event on most weekends and during the weeks there’s usually something going on such as fares and boutiques. Transport to the venues is always pretty easy and cheap, especially when you’re staying at the Georgian Guest House, where you’re never far from the action. The schedules for these places are always being updated but some of the highlights for first half of 2011 are:

•    Westlife – March @ SECC
•    Alexendra Burke – July @ SECC
•    X Factor Live – April @ SECC
•    RKC Music Winter Showcase, February @ O2 ABC
•    Lighthouse Family – March @ Glasgow Royal Concert Hall
•    Peter Frampton – March @ O2 ABC

But you should of course check the websites for details of more events and how to book your tickets. Glasgow’s quality live music venues all come together to offer you an excellent mix of classical, world music and popular entertainment to suit your particular taste

Scottish Exhibition and Conference Centre

The SECC, sometimes referred to as ‘the armadillo’, looks a bit like a mini Sydney Opera House. Situated in the old Queens Dock, following a £36million investment, the SECC has become one of Glasgow’s biggest and best venues for concerts, conferences, and other large events in Glasgow. Having already been host to some of Scotland’s biggest occasions, the SECC should definitely be on your list of visits. With an easy and cheap route from the Georgian Guest House you really don’t have an excuse not to go!

O2 Academy

Opened in March 2003 with an epic one-off show by Deacon Blue, the O2 Academy is a multi-million pound restoration of the building’s original art deco features. As a venue and host it has built up a reputation within the industry and public for top quality front-of-house and backstage facilities. It really is one THE places to go for rock, pop and dance events. Also the hilarious comedy performances often held there should be visited whenever possible as you are guaranteed to leave the place with a sore side and tears of laughter. With convienient links to the Georgian Guest House and bargain tickets prices this venue should definitely be on your to-do list.

O2 ABC Academy

Back in 1896 the ABC Academy housed Scotland’s first cinema. The building has gone through many phases, referred to as the Ice Palace, The Hippodrome and Hengler’s Circus until reverting to its original cinema status. Since then has been known as The Regal, MGM, Cannon and now the ABC. The building was converted to a concert venue in 2005 with a £2million investment by Regular Music.

Glasgow Royal Concert Hall

No matter what your taste in music, from Elgar to Elvis, the Glasgow Royal Concert Hall is sure to have something which appeals to you. Located in the heart of the city, the already well-established Glasgow Royal Concert Hall, City Halls and Old Fruitmarket are multi-purpose venues each with their own charms and individual qualities. Each venue has whatever you need for the perfect night out, including a range of fantastic bars and eateries in which you can savour the cultural atmosphere.
